![]() These episodes always take a David Lynch-style turn for the surreal, featuring scenes of psychological horror and gore. A typical episode finds the main characters being taught a lesson about subjects like "Love" or "Computers," from talking objects like an actual computer. That series was created by Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling and is a colorful puppet show in the style of Sesame Street. That was certainly emphasized by The Amazing World Of Gumball's season 5 finale "The Puppets." This episode contained a crossover, of sorts, with web series Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. Related: We Bare Bears Season 3 Finale Explained Within the limits of a cartoon show aimed at younger viewers, it features a darkly comic tone with some shades of horror. The tone of is somewhat unique, with the series mixing up animated styles across its various seasons, including stop-motion, CG, flash animation and so on. The Amazing World Of Gumball has been compared favorably to other Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time or We Bare Bears, though it's unknown if the series will continue. ![]() The show has become a cult favorite due to its surreal tone and characters and it ran for six seasons. Cartoon Network's The Amazing World Of Gumball follows the title character, a cat and his adopted brother, a goldfish named Darwin. You're better off watching South Park.Fans of the creepy, surreal puppet series Don't Hug Me I'm Scared were delighted when it creators brought their talents to an episode of The Amazing World Of Gumball. I say give it a look if you're interested, but you're not going to find anything that stellar. It's a massive drop in quality from season 2, and if it continues down this path, I'm afraid I'm going to get a bad season at one point, but as it stands, this season is just a very middling MEH. It's dull as shit, but not something I'd call bad. In the end, do I hate this season? Not at all. The Void, The Shell, The Joy, and The Money all know this and use their ideas to the fullest, wish the rest of this season actually did that. I don't even appreciate how this series no longer rubs in your face how creative its animation style and world are, that's really what I loved about the first two seasons: They knew they're in a world where literally anything can happen, so what does this season try to do? Go for some of the most boring episode ideas you can possibly imagine, which is strange, because the best episodes here are ones that actually have a sense of magic. Y'know how in SpongeBob season 6, the facial expressions became really detailed and grotesque? That's exactly what's happened with this season, all of the facial expressions look so fucking bad and out of place, but give SB season 6 credit, at least its expressions fit in well with the world it's in. ![]() ![]() Even the animation got downgraded, that sense of expressiveness that was in season 1 and parts of 2 is also missing. ![]() Barely any of the jokes land anymore, and even the best episodes really aren't that funny except for maybe The Money. It's repeated ad nauseam throughout this season and it gets grating quickly. The dialogue has turned so cliche, constantly having a character say that they're going to do something, pausing for a moment, and then having said characters do that thing they said they were going to do. All of the charm and wit from the first two seasons is mostly gone, and the show has degraded to being a half-baked, self-referential show. Do I still think I was right for doing that? Yes, I do. It's about as boring as SpongeBob season 7, if not worse, and just like that season, this one is riddled with too many lukewarm, forgettable episodes with boring writing.Ībout 4 years ago, when I first watched this season, I noticed that this show shifted away from its lighthearted, comedic tone, and dropped off the show immediately. It went from being a show about a wacky world with wacky characters to a pretentious, unfunny, and downright boring show. Oh me, oh my, what the fuck happened here? This show was off to great start and then took a turn for the worse. ![]()
